FROM THE AUTHOR:
After completing The Fifth Cycle: A New Hero is Forged, I decided to narrow my niche and focus more on Irish centric fantasy books. I wanted to write something based on the legend of the banshee. The only tricky bit was that banshees are associated with death, and that didn’t seem to lend itself toward the usual middle-grade books I’ve released so far.
So I decided to try my hand at writing young adult. It turned out to be quite liberating.
Since banshees deal with death, I immediately thought of balancing it with love. Hence, I decided to write a fantasy romance, which was another first for me. I decided to not make my protagonist the typical YA hunk. That also gave me the chance to explore masculinity, as my sensitive and poetic hero has some rather toxic male foils to face. By no means a fighter, he does prove his bravery on more than one occasion and proves the saying that true courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to overcome it.
As for my banshee, I decided to take advantage of her immortality and include scenes from her past which affect her present. Although a supernatural spirit, my banshee is still very human in many ways, especially in her desire to connect with others. And even fall in love.
